Use the fact that G/Z(G) ~ Inn(G) < Aut(G), together with the fact that if G/Z(G) is cyclic then G is abelian:

If Aut(G) is cyclic then so is Inn(G) since subgroups of a cylic group are cyclic. Hence G/Z(G) is cyclic. So G is abelian.
