Title: A Colloquium on the Mathematics of Games

Abstract: Honors Colloquia at Ball State University can provide an arena in which people from diverse disciplines combine their perspectives through discussions and explorations. Relying heavily on the resources of the internet, I recently developed a course which looked at the mathematics behind various recreational games such as billiards, poker, Rubik's Cube, and Set. The course syllabus (with several resourse links) is located at www.cs.bsu.edu/~emert/classes/388f97.htm

In this session I will present a few examples of the internet materials used, along with student and instructor reactions. These and similar materials are also linked from the Math Archives page on Mathematics and the Liberal Arts, at archives.math.utk.edu
