K-State Mathematics Scholarships

E-mail: ugmath@math.ksu.edu or Phone: 785-532-0557 concerning scholarships

General Criteria

Mathematics Scholars usually have scores at these levels or above: 34 math 33 composite ACT; 78 math 210 selection index PSAT; 780 math 740 verbal SAT; or 120 on the AMC 12 (American Mathematics Competitions).  Math grades and high school GPA and rank are also considered. All mathematics scholarships require a major in mathematics or a dual major in mathematics and another curriculum.  Mathematics Scholarships are for one year with a stipend between $500 and $2,000.  These scholarships are renewable for four years provided a 3.5 or better grade point average, overall and in mathematics, is maintained.

Students who let us know they are interested in pursuing a mathematics degree are considered for mathematics scholarships.  Continuing students are considered based on their academic work at K-State, on faculty recommendations, and on their scores in the Putnam Mathematical Competition.  All mathematics majors are automatically considered for mathematics scholarships each year.  These scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of merit, except that need and merit are weighed equally in awarding the Fuller Scholarships.

Mathematics Scholarships are also offered to a number of outstanding high school students each year contingent upon their entering Kansas State University by the following fall semester and officially entering mathematics.

The top 5 high school seniors in Kansas in the AMC 12  may be offered Freshman Mathematics Scholarships, once their scores are received by the Department of Mathematics.  Scores on the AMC 10, ACT, SAT, and PSAT are also taken into consideration along with the grades and level of mathematics courses they have completed.  The Regional American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) Directors for Kansas are Dr. Thomas Muenzenberger and Debra Webb, Department of Mathematics, Kansas State University, Manhattan,  KS  66506-2602.  Phone: Toll Free 888-421-8683  E-mail: ugmath@math.ksu.edu.

Application Procedure

Students who are considering a major in mathematics should send their high school and college transcripts and their AMC scores directly to the Mathematics Department at Kansas State University, 138 Cardwell Hall, Manhattan, KS  66506-2602, with a note that they are interested in majoring in mathematics at KSU and would like to be considered for a scholarship.  Students seeking general scholarships, State and Federal aid should apply through the Office of Student Financial Assistance at Kansas State University. For more scholarship information, view the K-State Scholarship Advising web page.
