Undergraduate Research in Mathematics at Kansas State University

The KSU mathematics department has been very successful mentoring undergraduate research projects.

The success of undergraduate research in mathematics at K-State is due to faculty mentoring. In the i-Center, Center for Integration of Undergraduate and Graduate Research, faculty members successfully mentor undergraduate research projects.

In addition to the i-Center's formal faculty mentoring, the Mathematical Contest in Modeling team provides students with an opportunity to work with other students as a team on an open ended contest problem. This is a good introduction to mathematical research.

We encourage you to apply for Internship, Research Program, and Study Abroad.

Also our undergraduate topics research course offerings at the 499, 599 and 799 levels are utilized by students wanting to explore more math or study in an area of mathematics that was listed in our catalog, but for which there was not enough student interest to offer the course that year.

Graduate level research is also available to the exceptional student. If you are interested and meet the course pre-requisites you can take graduate level course work in mathematics. Students at this level can petition a faculty to mentor them in graduate level research topics, some of these can be found on the Graduate Topics Course Descriptions page.

There are many special programs for undergraduates interested in mathematics. See the links on the side bar and below.
