A conference in honor of Ernie Shult, on the occasion of his retirement,
will be held at Kansas State University, March 22-24 (Thursday through
Saturday) of 2001. The themes of this conference are to coincide roughly
with Ernie's various past and present mathematical interests, with
emphasis
on Geometries related to Buildings, and on recent developments in the
Classification of the Finite Simple Groups, and related topics.

Driving Directions
From Kansas City International Airport or Kansas City
(1) Exit the airport following the sign to FREEWAY.
(2) Turn left to I-29 north.
(3) On I-29, take Exit 17 to I-435west (Topeka direction)
(4) On I-435, take Exit 12 and follow the sign to I-70 west (to Topeka). Drive about 46 miles
(5) On I-70, take Exit 182 (right after the second service station) and follow the sign to I-70 west and to Denvor direction.
(6). You are on I-70 west after you pay the toll ($1.75) again and drive about 52 miles.
(7) On I-70, take Exit 313 and turn right onto 177 North to Manhattan (9 miles).
(8) Follow the local direction (see Manhattan Map to your hotel)
Special note: Take exit 182 at east Topeka right after the second service station on the I-70From Denver direction on I-70 (east bound)
Take the exit 303 and follow Kansas highway 18 to Manhattan and follow the Kansas State University sign.
