News Details

March 2008 : K-State wins the Kansas Collegiate Mathematics Competition
A team from Kansas State University took the top place in the recent 2008 Kansas Collegiate Mathematics Competition. Moreover, two K-State students finished first individually together with two students from the University of Kansas.

The competition was part of the Kansas section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America which was held at Bethel College, North Newton, KS on May 2nd and May 3rd, 2008.

Along with K-State, teams taking part in the competition included the University of Kansas, Bethel College, Emporia State University, Hutchinson County Community College, Baker University, and Fort Hays State University.

Members of the K-State team placing first in the competition were Will Carlson, a senior in mathematics from Overland Park, Mike Reppert, a senior in biochemistry, chemistry and mathematics from Manhattan, and John (Patrick) Stewart, a graduating senior in mathematics, physics and statistics from Wichita. The K-State students Will Carlson and Ashley Wheeler, a graduating senior in mathematics and physics from Junction City, finished first individually in a four-way tie. Team coach for the K-State teams was Virginia Naibo, Assistant Professor of mathematics.
