April 2006 : Students rank high in the Putnam
Jeffrey Amos and Matthew Burkemper, senior math majors at K-State, ranked high in the Putnam Math Competition.

Jeffrey ranked in the top 3 percent and Matthew ranked in the top 7 percent of the 3,545 participants. Jeffrey had one of the top two performances among Big 12 participants. The Putnam Competition is the highest level math competition for undergraduates in the United States and Canada.

Other K-State math majors who did well included: Michael Higgins who ranked in the top 18 percent; William Carlson who ranked in the top 23 percent; Aly Deines who ranked in the top 30 percent; Brian Anderson who ranked in the top 43 percent; and Samuel Henke who ranked in the top 50 percent.

The K-State team composed of Jeffrey Amos, Matthew Burkemper, and Michael Higgins ranked 26th among the 500 participating colleges and universities. This was K-State's 2nd highest finish ever, behind only our 12th place and top public university ranking in 1996.
