News Details

March 2006 : K-Staters take top places in the Kansas Collegiate Mathematics Competition
K-State teams took the top two places in the Kansas Collegiate Mathematics Competition.

K-Staters also won most of the competition's individual honors, with two students tying for first place overall, and another student taking third place.

Members of the K-State team placing first in the competition were Michael Higgins, senior in mathematics and statistics, Manhattan, who also tied for first in individual honors; Jeffrey Amos, senior in mathematics and statistics, Olathe, who finished third individually in the competition; and Aly Deines, senior in mathematics, Woodbine.

Members of the K-State team placing second were Matthew Burkemper, senior in mathematics, Derby, who tied for first in individual honors; Adam Gelroth, senior in mathematics, Manhattan; and Kevin McBeth, senior in mathematics, statistics and economics, Topeka.

The competition was part of the Kansas section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America, which was held at Cowley County Community College.

Teams taking part in the competition included Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, Emporia State University and Cowley County Community College.
