Kansas State University Wins the 2005 Kansas Collegiate Mathematics Competition
Manhattan -- A team of Kansas State University students finished first in the 2005 Kansas Collegiate Mathematics Competition which was held in March during the Kansas Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America at the University of Kansas. Teams from Baker University, Benedictine College, Cowley County Community College, Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburgh State University, Southwestern College, the University of Kansas, and Washburn University participated in the Competition.K-State's winning team consisted of Matthew Burkemper, a senior in mathematics from Derby, Jeffrey Amos, a junior in mathematics and computer science from Olathe, and Michael Higgins, a senior in mathematics and statistics from Manhattan. Individually, Matthew Burkemper finished first and Jeffrey Amos finished second overall in the Competition. Professor Dmitry Ryabogin was the K-State team coach.
