"A number of engineering universities such as Harvey Mudd, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the California Institute of Technology (CIT) have a special section in their college application forms asking students to provide their scores from this national mathematics competition. Although it is optional, a good score in the AMC will increase the chances of an applicant being accepted to these universities" -- Fisico
