Flight instruction

For a pilot's license, students should expect around 40-60 hours of flying time. The FAA minimum is 40 hours. Flying students usually gain enough skill to takeoff, maneuver the plane, and land within approximately 10-20 hours. At this point the student would be considered ready for a "solo" flight that involves a taking the airplane up and practicing landings at the airport by him or herself. The amount of time varies so much because people have different aptitudes toward flying. Obtaining a license may cost around $4,000.00 and take from six months to a year for a novice, so someone with no previous flight experience should not expect to earn their license during this program.

The program will pay up to $400.00 in flight instruction for each student. Students may wish to spend additional money for extra flight instruction. The novices will all attend a seminar on learning to fly during the first week of the program. Students will schedule additional lessons with the instructors and flight schools described on the flight schools link to the left. We will send more information with the acceptance letter.
