Susan Holmes
Susan Holmes is Visiting Associate Professor of Statistics at Stanford
University. Her interests include applications tof statistics to biology,
in particular
phylogenetic trees, computational
statistics, in particular, nonparametric computer intensive
methods such as the
bootstrap, and teaching using simulations and web-based
tools.
Invited Talk: "Probability by Surprise: Teaching with
Paradoxes via the
Internet".
The invited talk will be about teaching introductory
probability by internet experiments and graphics.
Dr. Holmes will also present a second talk entitled:
"How the Web Changes our Courses". This talk
has to do with students' new perception of course material, interaction
with professors through email, and general changes that have been brought
about by the internet.
